DC 2 Hall 2 Update

Work has been progressing well in our second data hall.

The raised access floor is now installed and we have 2 aircon units installed and tested.

You can see the 2 Stulz aircon units at the far end of the room. 2 more units will be fitted at that end of the room with a further 2 at the opposite end.

Hall 2 will have 6 rows of between 21 and 23 racks, giving a total of 134 racks. There is also the option of caged areas (although this will reduce overall capacity). The racks are laid out in a standard hot/cold aisle system to ensure the best airflow around the racks.

Under each cold aisle are the dual power supply tracks from our UPS and generator backed power feed. Upto 32A of power can be fed into any cabinet, with the option for a second, redundant feed in the same rack.

The FM200 fire suppression system is also being installed. Hall 2 is physically separate from hall 1, so the suppression system will operate independently as will the air-conditioning and power feeds.

Work starting on Hall 2

We've filled Hall 1 and started work on Hall 2

Hall 2 is bigger than hall 1 with a capacity of 136 racks. taking the total capacity to 220 racks.

We are currently connecting up our additional UPSs and laying the electrical tracks ready for the raised floor to go in.

Hall 2 will have 7 aircon units in total, providing N+1 cooling for all 136 racks

DC2 goes live!

Node4 DC2 is now live!



After testing all the environmental elements of the Data Centre last week (power, generators, UPS, alarms, gas suppression, door access systems, air conditioning etc) we installed our core network equipment on Sunday night / Monday morning and "flicked the switch".

DC2 is now ready for our customers to install their equipment and start to take advantage of this state of the art hosting and co-location facility.

Node4 would like to thank everyone involved in the building and installation of DC2 and also our customers for their patience as we've moved closer to going live.

Almost there...

Wednesday this week will see the power switched on in DC2

Last week we had the switch gear delivered for the power (putting some cars at risk for a while!) and installed in the plant room.

That was the second big lift we've had in the last few days. The picture below shows the N+1 Generator being hoisted into position at the back of the building.

Inside the DC we've installed the first 20 racks and fitted the air con vents in the raised floor

The data hall has now been cleaned ready to accept the first load of network equipment later this week.

The CCTV system has been installed and tested, giving us high quality recorded 24 hour CCTV on 11 cameras, including infra-red lighting and motion detectors.

Latest Updates

It's been a while since we updated the blog, but we have been kind of busy... Here's what's been going on over the last few weeks

Fire Suppression:

The FM200 Gas Suppression system is now fully installed, giving us complete fire protection.

Aircon Units:

The 2 N+1 Stultz DX Cybercool Air Conditioning Units are in place and are now being set up by our engineers. These, combined with the raised floor, ceiling ducts and the alternating "hot and cold" corridors of racks will ensure a good flow of cool air around all the racks in the datacentre.

Racks:

We've taken delivery of our first batch of 20 racks. These racks are taller than normal at 46U, letting us fit more equipment in the same floorspace. For Node4's core network equipment, we'll be using special dual racks (front of the picture below) with integrated cable management down the middle of the pair.



We plan to begin cabling the datacentre on Thursday of this week.

Trying for Size

These are our new style cabinets, which are 46u with 2x 12 way IEC PDU’s and a pre-wired 16 port patch panel, so we can provide our customers with fast cross connect setup to either another rack or to our resilient core network.

All the ceiling tiles have been installed and the FM2000 system can now be completed ready for testing.
